Barker House Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions

 

DEPOSIT:  A deposit of 50 % of the total rental is due at the time the premises are rented.  Payment of the balance due is required at least ten days prior to the event.  Check, cash, or Visa/Master Card may be used to make payment.

 

EVENT CANCELLATION:  If the renter cancels an event more than thirty days prior to the scheduled date, we will return the initial deposit.  If the renter cancels the event less than thirty days prior to the scheduled date, we will return none of the deposit.

TIME:  The Barker House is open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except December 24 and 25); therefore, all events must begin after 4 p.m. and end by 11 p.m., and the property vacated by 12 a.m. (Town Ordinance).  A Commission representative will be in the house for all events.

SECURITY:  Alcoholic beverages must remain in the Barker House and the adjacent land and are not allowed on the breakwater or park area. At events when the renter is using the land adjacent to the Barker House, serves alcohol, and more than 50 people are expected to attend, the renter shall employ the number of Security Guards set forth in the following schedule:

The renter must hire approved Security Guards through the Edenton Police Department        (482-5144).  The renter must submit names of guards to the Barker House Administrator ten days prior to the event.

 

LIABILITY:   Renters assume responsibility for all illness, injury, loss, damages or any other costs having occurred due to acts of omissions of renter or any of its agents, licensees, or invitees.  The Commission is not responsible for any equipment or property left on the site by renters or their guests.  The renter must remove equipment/ property after the event.  Renter must present proof of Liability Insurance in amounts not less than $300,000.00 for bodily injury and property damage, and an ABC license (if necessary) to the Barker House Adminstrator at least ten days prior to the event.  A homeowner’s policy will cover this; check with your agent.

MUSICIANS:  If the renter’s band needs extra amperage, the renter must contact the Town of Edenton, and the Barker House Administrator must approve.

FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT:  The renter may not use or move furniture or equipment belonging to the Barker House for any event without prior permission by the Barker House Administrator.  If she/ he grants permission to move furniture, it is the responsibility of the renter to return the furniture to its proper place after the event.

WINE:  Only white or blush wine is permitted inside the Barker House.  Red wine may be served on the porch or outside when tents are used on the property.  This is to protect the valuable carpets inside the house.

TABLE CLOTHS:  The dining room table measures 85 ½ inches long by 44 ¼ inches wide.  The large round table in the parlor is 59 ½ inches in diameter and is 28 ¾ inches high.  We have white cloths to fit the dining room table and a gold cloth for the round table.  The cloths are available for rental. The fee is $10.00 laundry fee per cloth, which must be paid in advance.

RENTAL EQUIPMENT: The renter is responsible for making all arrangements with equipment rental companies for furniture, dishes, tents, etc.  Tents must be placed on the grassy area next to the Barker House and not on the street in front of the Barker House.

FIRE PREVENTION:  There will be NO SMOKING in the Barker House, and candlelight (with drip less candles) will only be permitted on the first floor.

GROUNDS:  The grounds around the Barker House may be used except for a 5-foot right of way around the bulkhead starting at the southeast corner of the porch.  If the street in front of the Barker House is necessary for an event, the renter must obtain a rental agreement with the Town of Edenton.

It is the responsibility of the renters to leave the Barker House in the same condition it was when they set up for their event.  The renters must supply their trash bags, baggies and aluminum foil.  The Barker House will supply paper towels and toilet paper.
