Volunteers are Essential

* Serve as docents assisting guest as they visit the Barker House
* Assist guest at events sponsored by the Commission
* Help with maintenance of our buildings
* Brief and guide visitors to the Roanoke River Lighthouse. once the renovations are completed
* Serve on essential committees created by the Commission's Executive Committee to plan and execute fundraising events, host special occasions honoring our donors, work with the renovation and furnishing of the Lighthouse and other key activities.

Men and women are needed as volunteers. We need docents to help greet visitors and tell them about the Barker House, other Commission projects. We need help with the maintenance of the House from time to time. No one is ever asked to do anything that they are uncomfortable doing, be it painting shutters or selling books in the gift shop.
